Diagnostic Information
Common Symptoms of Fuel Injection Pump Failure
Hard starting, long cranking, engine no-start condition, unstable idle, engine stalling, loss of power, low rail pressure, poor acceleration, excessive smoke, abnormal engine noise, check engine warning light, fuel system contamination or metal particles in the fuel system may indicate problems within the diesel fuel system or high-pressure injection system.
These symptoms may also be caused by injectors, rail pressure sensors, fuel metering valves, ECU faults, fuel contamination or other diesel engine management issues.
Installation and System Check
Before replacing the high-pressure fuel injection pump, a professional diagnostic inspection should be performed, including rail pressure testing, injector leak-off testing, fuel contamination inspection, ECU fault-code analysis, fuel pressure regulator inspection, fuel filter inspection and diesel fuel quality inspection.
If the previous pump failed internally and released metal particles into the fuel system, the fuel injectors, common rail, fuel lines, fuel tank, fuel filter housing, fuel pressure regulator and fuel metering valve should also be inspected and cleaned or replaced if necessary. Installing a new Bosch CP4 pump into a contaminated fuel system may result in immediate repeat failure.
