Genuine new Bosch F00N210223 fuel metering unit, also called a quantity control valve, for Bosch CPN5 and CPN6 common rail high-pressure pumps. It replaces the Mercedes-Benz OE number A0000900069 (000 090 00 69) and is fitted to Mercedes-Benz Actros, Antos and Arocs trucks with OM 470, OM 471 and OM 473 engines, and to CapaCity, Citaro, Conecto, Integro, OC 500 RF, Tourismo, Tourrider and Travego buses and coaches. The vehicle table below lists 248 confirmed variants.

The fuel metering unit is mounted on the low-pressure side of the high-pressure pump and controls how much diesel is admitted to the pumping elements. This allows the engine control unit to deliver only the fuel quantity actually required to hold the commanded rail pressure across the whole load and speed range, instead of compressing the full delivery and returning the excess. Accurate metering keeps rail pressure stable, reduces unnecessary pump work and heat input into the fuel, and protects the injectors from pressure fluctuation.

Supplied new in the original sealed Bosch box, made in the Czech Republic, and covered by a 1-year manufacturer warranty.

Common Symptoms of a Failing Fuel Metering Unit

On Mercedes-Benz OM 470, OM 471 and OM 473 engines fitted with a Bosch CPN5 or CPN6 high-pressure pump, a worn, contaminated or electrically faulty metering unit typically presents as unstable or low rail pressure with corresponding rail-pressure diagnostic trouble codes, uncontrolled rail pressure rise with over-pressure codes, extended cranking or a no-start condition, an engine that starts and then stalls shortly afterwards, power limitation or limp-home operation, and rough running under load.

These symptoms overlap with faults in the high-pressure pump, the rail-pressure sensor, the pressure limiting valve, the injectors and the low-pressure fuel supply. Carry out all testing required to establish that the metering unit is the actual cause of the fault before replacing any part.

Installation and System Check

A contamination check is required before fitting a metering unit, regardless of what caused the original fault. Inspect the fuel filter and its housing, and the inlet screens of the solenoid valves on the pump and on the rail, because that is where debris collects and where the first traces are visible.

Affected components are cleaned or replaced: fuel tank, supply and return lines, filter housing and filters, common rail and high-pressure pump. High-pressure lines and connector tubes are replaced, not cleaned. Flush the system, fit new filters, and bleed it according to the manufacturer procedure.

Debris from a failing high-pressure pump is only one cause. Poor-quality or contaminated diesel is just as common, typically from improper fuel storage, tanks that are not cleaned periodically, or contaminated containers used for refuelling.

Fitting a new metering unit into a system that has not been decontaminated produces repeat failure within a short time and is not covered by warranty.
